Arii's ANKI GUIDE (CALC, LANG, GEO, APUSH):

I've crafted Anki (flashcard) decks for AP Calculus BC, AP Language and Composition, AP Human Geography, and AP US History for the use of studying. This document is a guide for how to access said resources.

What is Anki?

One of my favorite things on this planet. Anki is an FSRS (Free Spaced Repetition System), meaning that it's flashcards that learn how you forget (not meant in a bad way). It's great and I use it from everything from language learning to art history to flower meanings. How does you use it?

  1. Have a desktop computer or an Android.
    1. If you don't, you need to be willing to pay the $20 fee to buy the app (Apple Playstore charges apps to host themselves, and Anki is open source and free, and cannot support said fee without payment).
  2. Navigate to the App Store or to https://apps.ankiweb.net/ and download Anki.
  3. Set up an account, and if need be, multiple devices through the account's sync feature.
    1. If you need help let me know.
  4. In general options, turn on FSRS and set your desired retention rate to 90%.

I also recommend this video tutorial if you get lost. Here is the Anki wiki as well.

How do you get started?

  1. Set the review cap on the deck to 999 and the new cards count to something between 10 and 50.
    1. This is a bit tricky depending on how much time you have to do Anki, how many decks you're doing and how long the deck is. Time this by the amount of days until the test, with some breathing room - with this helpful "how many cards are in this deck" guide:
      1. Lang:
      2. CalcBC:
      3. Geo:
      4. APUSH:
  2. Tap on the deck on mobile to start studying. On desktop, click and enter.
  3. Do all cards. Do not hit "Easy" or "Hard" - just either "Good" or "Again" depending on if you knew it or did not (it helps with the timing, especially on FSRS).
  4. Repeat again tomorrow. And I mean it. Anki does not equal memorization or magical study sauce unless you consistently do it every single day. Do not let your reviews pile up.

Special sauces?

  1. Add some addons if you want (these only work on desktop) - I'd recommend PassFail, Review Heatmap and Study Time Stats.
  2. Download some other decks after the AP test. I'm learning languages with Anki, and other cool things. It's a great resource and a fun way to spend your time.
  3. Wanna learn all of the world's geography? I have an edited version of the Ultimate Geography Deck with all of the landmarks Mr. Thomas requires you to know for Geo. Or if you're not taking Geo just go download the Ultimate Geography Deck- (this one ask me for the .apkg directly as I stole most of the cards from Ultimate Geography Deck and I don't feel good posting it standalone).
